The Spinto Band are a six piece ensemble, including two sets of brothers. Sons of local favorites Sin City Band, they too hail from Delaware and were allegedly formed when vocalist Nick Krill unearthed some lyrics written by his deceased relative Roy Spinto. Six albums and 3 EP’s later, they have toured extensively in Europe and the U.S. They recently released a 10" EP called "Slim & Slender" on Park The Van Records and headlined a tour of the midwest which culminated in a sold out show on Halloween in New Orleans. Jams for Jimmy is thrilled to have these talented artists headline this year’s benefit. This intimate performance by The Spinto Band is not to be missed.
Sin City Band — “We have been around the Delaware Valley since 1975. Tho our sons may dispute some of the details, we started giving birth to The Spinto Band in 1982. When Sin City got too old to keep schlepping amplifiers and such up the basement stairs, The Spinto Band took over the cellar studio and quickly emerged as a bona fide, highly original combo to be reckoned with. If life were a nascar race (and it's not) they sped passed us in a year, and starting lapping us in 2. Unlike Loudon & Rufus/ Martha Wainwright, we are very excited for and very proud of their great success, and LOVE the rare moments when we get to play a show opening for them.” Both bands are really excited to be included in the 2nd Annual Jams for Jimmy.
The Steve Pepper Band has been creating original American roots music in the Mid-Atlantic region for many years. Steve's songs are insightful and unapologetic, and he delivers them with honesty and conviction. The band will be featured on the upcoming Shut Eye Records Americana compilation, Circle Unbroken, releasing Spring 2010.
Steve Pepper (co-organizer of Jams for Jimmy) and Jim Baxter worked together in carpentry for many years. They were also band mates— Jim on bass guitar and Steve on guitar and vocals. Steve can be found at Jim’s house Monday nights playing music with Jimmy. Every week he puts a guitar in Jim’s hand and helps him form chords encouraging him to play along. “It puts him in a good mood”, says Pepper. Jim loves this time dedicated to creating music again.
Erica Rose released Shadow in 2001, featuring Erica’s guitar and vocals and Jim Baxter on bass. Several local guest musicians round out the sound on several tracks. Her original music has been described as passionate with soaring vocals accompanied by bluesy, folk rock...sometimes dark and sometimes sweet, it’s beautifully crafted music that sends chills down your spine.
Erica (co-organizer of Jams for Jimmy) and Jim Baxter have collaborated musically for over 18 years. She even introduced Jim to his wife, Stefanie. “In addition to being a superb bass player and musical partner, Jim has always been a wonderful friend with a kind and gentle soul.”
Hugh Price is a solo and ensemble player currently based in South Carolina. In 1993 he won the S.C. Acoustic Playoffs and plays an average of 200 live performances a year. His music has been described as "rootsy with a modern interpretation”. He also plays with the band Triple Lindy. Hugh will be making the trip up to Delaware to play for Jim again as he did last year.
Hugh and Jim met in 7th grade. That was 1976. “I started playing guitar in 1977. In 1978 Jim and I rode the train to Swarthmore to buy him his first bass. Then friend Jay Harrison told us he could play drums and our first band UHF was formed (1979). We played through High School, College and for some years after that.”
Edward has been playing music for over 30 years. His most recent release, Man on Stairs, is a collection of original songs. Edward plays regularly at the Bellefonte Cafe, Home Grown Cafe and Blue Crab Grille. He has been a featured artist at the Buzz Ware Cafe in Arden and the "Jam Fest" at the Brandywine Valley Association in Chester County. "Music and Art that is cutting edge when first conceived is timeless. This timeless music has shaped my life. It's the same force and awareness that perks my interest into today's contemporary art and music scene."
Edward has generously donated the printing of all advertising collateral for Jams for Jimmy. Ever present on the local fundraising stage, he’ll jam once again at this years benefit concert for Jimmy.
